Product Description

The Nuna is an heirloom bean originally grown in the high altitudes of Peru. It is a very unique bean variety because when they are cooked with hot air the beans burst open like popcorn and taste like peanuts. In the central and northern Andes of Peru, Nunas are prepared in traditional ways much like popcorn. They are toasted for 5-10 minutes in a hot frying pan, which is usually coated with vegetable oil or animal fat. The seed coat splits in two or more places and is served at main meals as a side dish or eaten as a snack.
